Rally Reports
January 2011
Redcar was our New Year Rally. We welcomed 50 vans, 1 Lancs, 1 E Mids, 2 NWMNW, 12 Yorks and 34 of our own. Also 2 jockey rooms were taken by N.County members and a third was taken by a members friend. Making a grand total of 53 parties attending the rally. It was very good to see Margaret Platt attend, and we all wish her a very speedy recovery back to full health.
The weather proved to be very good although it was at times breezy and on the cool side. We had our usual fish and chip supper night on arrival which is always very popular, this was followed by bingo, and then it was just catch up with friends. On the Friday we had entertainment by Carrie Steel, a very good singer who encouraged us all in to a sing along.
Saturday was shopping and walking time, and then getting ready for the New Year celebrations which went on in to the early hours. This included a live Disco and a very tasty buffet, not to mention all the dancing and drinking. During the night 4 men in dinner suits were cajoled into doing the full Monty, this was a good laugh, probably all the more so because they did not look at all comfortable in giving the performance. Of course we then had Brian with such a large pair of knickers that he had to invite another 3 members to join him in wearing them at the same time, just to see if they could fill them, perhaps it might pay him in future to buy a pair that actually fit him. Then of course Alan desperate for a dance, he must have been missing his usual dancing partner and so decided to do his own version of Jailhouse Rock and in the absence of a wooden chair replaced it with a plastic one and went prancing up and down the floor.
Sunday afternoon, New Years day, we had a round the world quiz. This included some tasty clues from a few of the different locations that we passed through. These included Turkish delight, Frankfurters, Sangria and Bakewell tarts. The hosts were also dressed in different costumes from a few of the countries visited. We had a cowboy that looked more like Woody from Toystory. Yours truly got known as Mustapha Sheet, this gradually got corrupted as the day went on, much to peoples amusement, to something that had a little more of a toilet inference about it, replacing the double E with a different single vowel. The ladies on the other hand were all dressed very beautifully in various costumes and all looked gorgeous.
